Kihei wetlands, revised with views from Halekuai Street

Kihei wetlands are small versions of Kealia Pond.  I photographed four areas, wondering how they will be impacted by the Downtown Kihei Project.

Kayak/Fish or Fish/Kayak

Not “either or”, but “both and”.  Check out the features of the Mirage Drive 180 from Hobie Cat for their Pro-angler 14 kayak.

Glorious Sun Rise

Hawaii and perhaps many vacation destinations are known for glorious sunsets. Between five and six p.m. people pause, situate themselves for a view of the western sky.

On Maui, there are several options for seeing the sunrise from the top of Haleakala. Drive yourself to the 10,000 ft summit, join a comfort tour or the extra special tour that hauls mountain bikes to the summit for you, so you can coast 28 miles back to sea level.

My personal favorite is to rise early on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays go to Kihei Aquatic Center to swim laps.  By 7:15 a.m. during winter months the sun will rise over Haleakala.  Advantages: price free, more sleep and exercise too!

They will be underground in the near future and we won’t know they are there 😉

Six months later, the Bikeway extension between Lipoa and Kihei Regional Park is complete with landscaping.

Benches, water fountains, trash receptacles, lighting, landscaping with irrigation and new trees

Sail away to Lana’i

The best way to get to Lana’i (one of several islands on the horizon) is by catamaran.

Here’s a quick look at our adventure that included snorkeling, beach picnic, (a peak the Four Season’s resort lobby), performance sailing on the return with a swim from the boat.  Amazing!

Clouds…

Day 4 at Waipuilani Park.  Surfing turtles eluded the camera.  Their heads may be above water a single second when they get air.  Other times wave action may reveal them when they are near the surface.

I am humming “clouds illusions”….here is today’s photo.

Kayaking

I returned to Waipuilani Park today to watch surfing turtles.  The third day in a row.  Yes, I did see surfing turtles.

Saturday I photographed a solo wind surfer.  Sunday I photographed a solo fisherman.  Today….a solo kayaker.  Locals know about the easy parking access and the best times for privacy.
