Begin or end with 1.5K through Meadowlands or Piilani neighborhoods
Head south on Liloa…past Piilani Village Shopping Center with restaurants, medical center, shopping, food court, bank, Verizon, salon, cleaners, gas station, Starbucks…
Continue south on Liloa…past apartments, Kihei Community and Aquatic Center, Kihei elementary and intermediate schools…
The Haggai Institute is the building in the background.
From the entrance to South Maui (or Kihei) Community Park take the paved path east (uphill) and south to the summit.
Take time to play! Double back to the entrance, then west on Halekuai Street. This is Kihei’s Business district with rental cars, Goodyear, autoparts, veterinarian, imports, etc.
Views of Kihei’s wetlands are on both sides of the Halekuai Street.
Turn left on South Kihei Road. (The headquarters for Maui Dive Shop on the left. Salvation Army store on right.) This is a 1K long uneventful stretch. Ki-Hana Nursery is on the right.
Kukui Mall and Starbucks will be on the left and fire station plus public library on the right.
This business district is mountain side from Kalama Park. It includes professional offices, restaurant, salon and Foodland grocery.
Keep heading south on South Kihei Road past restaurants, two open air markets to the corner with six floor Island Surf building. Cross South Kihei Road at the cross walk north of the Surfing Schools. Head for the ocean. This is the southern most end of the ocean walk way at Kalama Park.
Kalama Park has baseball diamonds, basketball, tennis, soccer field, skate boarding, roller skating, play ground….all beside a phenomenal ocean view.
Proceed north along the ocean walk way.
Continue on Halama Street. There are five public access points to the beach between the homes (oceanside 112-117). It is interesting to compare 1950s beach homes with the newer estates which are side by side on this street. Turn right at Maui Gardens condos to pick up South Kihei Road, then head north (left).
There will be Kai Ani Village town homes to the east with street side business entrances on the ground level, St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Kihei Plaza, Times Supermarket and Azeka Market Place ocean and mountain side of S Kihei Road. Azeka is home to Ace Hardware, Nalu’s, White Pebbles, medical offices, Taco Bell, gym, banks, restaurants, quilt shop and much more.
Turn east (right) past the post office at the corner with Long’s Shopping Center….The road will take you to the center of the Downtown Kihei Project and back to the beginning of this 10K route.
Aloha!
